Tournaments have been an interesting part of recent history for the Northwestern Wildcats. What with the historic run to the 2017 NCAA tournament and all.
Chris Collins’ team is going to be taken a lot more seriously, and as we noted earlier this week the schedule is going to have a lot to do with that. On Wednesday we found out the opponent up first in the 2017 Tip-Off Classic.
Northwestern gets LaSalle out of the Atlantic 10 in the first round, meanwhile Boston College and Texas Tech will meet in the other matchup. The winners and losers will meet the following day to conclude the tournament that will take place at the Mohegan Sun Arena in
“Our program is thrilled to have the chance to participate in a tournament with as rich of a history as the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament.,” Northwestern Sullivan-Ubben head men’s basketball coach Chris Collins said. “It’s always exciting anytime you have the opportunity to play for a championship and we look forward to challenging ourselves early in the season.”
There are two other games associated with the tournament, as the Wildcats will host Saint Peter’s November 13 and Sacred Heart November 24. Both games will be played at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill. due to ongoing construction at Welsh-Ryan arena.
LaSalle is coming off a season in which it went 15-15 overall and 9-9 in Atlantic 10 play. Guard B.J. Johnson, who averaged 17.6 points per game last season, could be back for the Explores if he decides to return to school. He had declared for the draft, but has not hired an agent and has until June 1st to stay in the draft or stay in school.
